Working together for a better UAW
Wayne Blanchard is a respected labor leader whose career reflects a deep commitment to worker advocacy, union governance, and the advancement of equity within the labor movement. He began his leadership journey at UAW Local 1435 in Toledo, Ohio, serving as Financial Secretary before ultimately being elected President of the local. He was also honored to be elected to represent Local 1435 as a Delegate to the 2002 UAW Constitutional Convention. In these roles, Brother Blanchard earned a reputation for principled leadership, fiscal responsibility, and steadfast representation of the membership. He later made history as the first Black Director of UAW Region 2B, breaking barriers while providing strategic direction to locals across the region and strengthening collective bargaining power.
Throughout his career, Brother Blanchard has prioritized education and leadership development, championing programs that deepen members’ understanding of contracts, grievance handling, arbitration, and the broader role of unions in advancing social and economic justice in our communities.
Currently, Wayne Blanchard serves as Director of the UAW Arbitration Department, where he oversees critical arbitration functions and works to ensure that members’ contractual rights are vigorously defended. His leadership continues to shape fair labor practices and prepare the next generation of union leaders.
